International moving Corfu
Corfu is the main town of the Greek island of Corfu, which is situated in the eastern Ionian Sea near the coast of Albania. The town has around 36,000 inhabitants. The island is rich in history, from Greek mythology, and its connections to Poseidon, God of the Sea, and also from conquests due to its position. The legacy of its conquests can be seen in the form of two castles that protect the city.
Today the town is the centre of the island’s thriving tourist industry and is the main site of the Ionian University. The Palaio Frourio is a Venetian fortress now used for concerts and theatrical productions. At the central point of the citadel is an observation tower with a crucifix at its summit. Below this lies St. George's church. Near the old Venetian Citadel are also two large squares, ‘Ano Plateia’ and ‘Kato Plateia’ with large lawns and interesting buildings such as a Roman-style rotunda from the time of the British Protectorate, where the local Philharmonic orchestra plays.
The Neo Frourio (New Fortress) is a giant maze of fortified buildings in the north-east of the city. It is now open to the public and tours take place in the complex. Just to the North of ‘Kato Plateia’ are the ‘Palaia Anaktora’ (‘Old Palaces’), an area of Romano buildings once a residence of the King of Greece. Today they are home to art exhibits including a Museum of Chinese Art. The Palace Gardens with trees, flowers and ponds look over the bay and are a place to relax and sample Greek coffee and ‘ouzo’.
